Frequently Asked Questions

What do you do with my registration and credit card information?
See our privacy policy.

How do you gather consumer information?
The information available through My Market Profile is provided by American adults that participate in the Simmons National Consumer Study (NCS), a long-standing and trusted survey of American consumers conducted by Experian Simmons. Participants are selected at random and are asked to complete a survey about their demographics, consumer habits, lifestyles, opinions, and more. Answers from participants that submit a complete and usable questionnaire ("respondents") are then statistically weighted and projected to be representative of the American population. This enables us to estimate consumer insights for larger populations. All data that is collected from respondents in the Simmons survey is confidential and no personally identifiable information is ever reported.

What information do you collect?
Experian Simmons gathers information in many categories through our consumer surveys. We collect information on demographics, lifestyles and hobbies, media usage, attitudes and opinions, shopping habits, brand preferences for nearly 8,000 brands in 450 product categories, and more. Browse our list of research topics to see what is available on My Market Profile.

I don’t see what I need. Do you provide custom reports?
Yes. Contact the Experian Simmons service center during standard business hours to inquire about custom report options.

Who uses market research?
Market research is used by all kinds of companies in every industry. Experian Simmons is a leading research provider to media companies (e.g. television, magazines, cable networks, internet sites, etc.), advertising agencies, and marketers including large national and international brands. Our data is used to profile consumers in order to better understand their purchasing motivations and how to communicate with them through media and advertising.

How do I find the geographic market for my business?
Look for the city or metropolitan area closest to your location in the list of over 200 markets on My Market Profile. Choosing a market will then enable you to see the counties or ZIP codes in that market area.

What is a trade area?
On My Market Profile, a trade area is a group of ZIP codes or counties that define your primary area of business.
